History : Preparing for Paper 1

When studying for paper 1 remember that there are 2 aspects to this; firstly you will need content knowledge. Secondly, you will need certain skills regarding using sources.

In terms of content, you will need to know all the bullet points listed for the prescribed subject (see your IB History syllabus for detailed information); basically you need to know the historical facts concerning the Paris Peace Settlement, its implemantation, its impact in the 1920s and 1930s, the various attempts to enforce ...

3 Study Tips for IB Economics

1. Remember to evaluate when required. You know that you will always have to evaluate in part (b) of the question that you choose on Paper 1 and in part (d) of each of the three questions that you do on Paper 3 (Paper 2 if you are Standard Level). Know what the IB recognises as evaluation and make clear when you are evaluating by using appropriate language.

This is why I and OSC have decided to offer online classes in logarithms for IB diploma students. The classes are intended to help students to gain that important confidence in solving logarithmic equations or simplifying logarithmic expressions.

There are neat little ‘tricks’ for making logarithms easy and these are something ...

Doing Well in IB Chemistry

Doing well at IB Chemistry depends on a number of things.

Firstly, it depends on you.

You are different from the next student and what works for them might not help you so much. Some students are OK at the maths, but really struggle with learning the facts and definitions, while others are great at memorising but don’t have the confidence to tackle a problem involving calculations.

For yet others, they understand the chemistry but when it comes to exams they find it ...

3 Tips for IB Philosophy Students

1)      The ability to interpret questions is very important for paper 1. I feel that the stimulus materials for the core theme are usually relatively easy to deal with, especially the pictorial ones as they are quite open to a variety of interpretations. However, the questions on the optional themes can sometimes be worded in a way that it is not so clear what is demanded of you. You need to make sure you interpret the question in the right ...

Picturing the Molecular World of IB Chemistry

I often find students trying to remember bits and pieces they have learnt, but the whole picture isn’t there.

How to Deal with the Maths in IB Chemistry

You can’t get far in IB Chemistry without being able to get the calculations right!

Most of the calculations are not difficult in themselves but students often don’t spot which type of calculation to do when.

There are two essentials: firstly you need to learn all the various mathematical expressions you might need, secondly you need as much practice as you can get at using them.

A helpful analogy might be a skilled tradesperson who comes to fix a problem in your house. ...
